Wah-wah CS-1

Circuit based on a wah-wah made in England in 1976.

This prototype is based on a wah-wah made in England in 1976, which is based on the classic wah circuit designed by Brad Plunkett and Lester Kushner for Thomas Organ company.

  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB) size: 58x57mm
  • In-house made inductor
  • It only works with a 9V battery when the instrument is connected
  • Handwired heavy duty aerial jack connectors
  • Modular design so you can easily change the board without soldering
  • High pressure connector with gold plated pins
  • Installable in Dunlop Crybaby GCB-95 with one or two screws.

Traced from an original wah-wah from 1976

This circuit has been traced from an original unit made in England in 1976.

Original wah-wah circuit from 1976 ZTX109C transistors in the wah-wah from 1976

The original board features tropical fish capacitors and ZTX109C transistors. In my circuit I've used 2N3904 with hFE of ~200 but they sound too educated, so I've replaced them with a pair of BC109B with gold plated pins made with hFE ~320 and they work much better.

The potentiometer used is a Clarostat Hot Potz 1 and the sound is similar to the original unit although less aggressive and with less travel due to the pedal construction.
